poor Tian Chua

The opposition politician, Tian Chua, has often been a victim of the BN-led UMNO government. Since the formation of the Keadilan (PKR) party in 1999, he has been a scapegoat of numerous arrests and assaults on a number of occasions, with the highlight being his arrest under the Internal Security Act for two years back in 2004.

The latest incident would be his arrest for allegedly attacking a police officer, as well as his participation in an illegal rally. While the former act remains an allegation at most, there is unequivocal evidence of police brutality committed upon him.

Instead of serving and protecting the people, the Malaysian police chose to victimise individuals who were merely exercising their legitimate rights as citizens. Instead of getting to the root of bad apples in the Malaysian police force, they decided to pass the blame onto him by charging him.

Perhaps this is what they call justice - Malaysian style.
