Reading this blog entry makes me sick to the stomach at the Malaysian police's deplorable and depraved actions.
Basically, the victim was a socio-political blogger from Kuantan who was arrested on the basis of drug trafficking allegations.
While the Malaysian police had not been able to produce a warrant, they invaded the victim's house by breaking down his front door and proceeded to arrest the victim who was clothed only in his underwear.
Referring to the pictures, the police also rummaged personal belongings in the house, as well as the car.
The fiasco above is not only embarrassing and shocking, but it also infringes upon the civil rights of an individual.
To begin, if an arrest is to be made by the police, it is only justified that a warrant is provided to prove that the arrest is legitimate, not arbitrary.
Secondly, the arrest of the individual while dressed only in his underwear is degrading, if not greatly embarrassing. The very least that the police can do is allow the individual to sufficiently clothe himself. In addition, the ordeal was made more humiliating for the said individual a female police officer was present as well.
Finally, since when was it a crime to blog on political and social issues? As with most democratic nations, individuals are entitled the right to freedom of speech, ideas and expressions. To be deprived of the said rights, is sign of an emerging totalitarian regime, which is antithesis to the current administration's pledge and manifesto when it came to power four years ago.
Yes, the Malaysian police resembles Al Capone with a badge, so to speak.
