Nottingham

It has been close to two weeks since I arrived at Nottingham, England. Since the day I decided to to pursue my law degree in England, it has been a thoroughly worthwhile and exciting experience.

To begin, I spent three days living in Rutland Hall. It was a temporary accommodation, specially for international students, located on campus. During my tenure in Rutland, most of the time was spent attending orientation events; from welcome talks, bank applications, health registration and finally, moving to my permanent accommodation in Sillitoe Court, one of the many student halls located in Raleigh Park.

I share the flat with five tenants. Thankfully, four of them are also Asians which significantly reduced cultural and language barriers. Of the four flatmates, three are from Hong Kong and one from India.

Pursuant to that, I have attended lectures for three of the four subjects since Thursday, including Constituitional Law, Law of Torts, and Understanding Law. The lecturers were brilliant, save for the lecturer of the former subject. That said, it is a relief to know that there will be someone else taking over the subsequent lectures.

While trying to accustom to the new culture, lifestyle and schedule, I am also in the process of applying for a vacation placement in December. Although it is rare and unconventional for a first year law undergraduate to take up a placement at this stage, I feel I need to get a headstart in order to get ahead in this ever-competitive job market.

The work begins now!
